GHCCM Receives Donation from Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation

Feeding the Hungry grant increases access to nutritious food; provides nutrition education

Greater Hickory Cooperative Christian Ministry (GHCCM) has received $2,500 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to help nourish clients experiencing hunger. The Feeding the Hungry grant supports community feeding partners by helping those living in poverty to increase their access to nutritious food and providing nutrition education to eliminate health risks for those experiencing food insecurity.

Jane Duralia, RN, Nutrition Plus Administrator, provides education, cooking classes and counseling for groups and individuals who are diagnosed with Diabetes and Hypertension through the GHCCM Medical Clinic.  When enrolled in Nutrition Plus, clients have access to a healthy food market.  The grant from Food Lion Feeds assists with supplying needed foods for the food market.  Providing a healthy assortment of foods whether fresh, frozen or canned is an important part of the Nutrition Plus.
